Banco Santander, S.A. reported the completion of a significant transaction on January 9, 2026, selling 49% of its stake in Santander Bank Polska and 50% of its asset management arm to Erste Group for around EUR 7 billion, while also acquiring 100% of Santander Consumer Bank Polska for approximately EUR 0.7 billion. The sale generated a net capital gain of about EUR 1.9 billion and increased the bank's CET1 ratio by approximately 95 basis points.
